Work along with the video on words with more than one syllable. We will also be thinking about what we do when we can’t hear all the sounds in a word.
We now need to think about the spoken emphasis, or stress, in words with more than one syllable. This is because we only double a stressed syllable if it has a short vowel and is followed by one consonant.
You may prefer to go through this video in shorter sections. Here are the timings:
- Stop after ‘tobogganing’
- Restart at 6:40 and stop after ‘bottom’
- Restart at 9:29 and stop after ‘Simon’
- Restart at 12:32 for two dictation sentences.
Use writing, or typing to practise your words again. You can also read the words to someone else and ask them to write them.
