Identifying Syllables The Easy Way

This short video shows a way to help your child identify syllables in a word.  They may already have been taught to clap out the number of syllables in a word, as far back as nursery school. They also may have been taught syllable rules to break words into smaller manageable chunks. This makes it easier to read or spell words, especially longer words.

If you have forgotten what a syllable is, you may want to look at ‘Syllables’ in the Phonological Awareness section of our website.

Muffin Activity

This activity is aimed at:

- knowing that a one syllable word, that has a short vowel sound, ending in an f, s, l and z must have the last letter doubled
