2.1 Using Suffix -es with Choices 2
You are here: Shapes and Sounds Part 2 > Lesson 18 - e > 2.1 Using Suffix -es with Choices 2

This activity includes a recap of the long vowel spelling choices we have covered so far and introduces the letter ’e’ when it is used as a long vowel spelling choice.  We then work through the spelling of words with more than one syllable that use suffix -es.  Then we think about a few commonly used words that keep the speech sound we hear at the beginning of the word ‘get’, even though the letter ‘g’ isn’t followed by ‘a’, ‘i’ or ‘o’.

The words we cover will be included in dictation sentences.  You may want to take a break before you write the sentences, or between the sentences.  They build into a short ‘spelling story’ called Ben’s Potatoes.  Keep a copy of your spelling story to remind you of four commonly used words, ending in the letter ‘o’, that add -es.
