1.3 Writing Sentences 1
You are here: Shapes and Sounds Part 2 > Lesson 14 - The Doubling Rule > 1.3 Writing Sentences 1

Listen to the spoken sentences that include words with suffix –ing attached and think about whether to use the doubling rule.  Think about whether to write ‘is’ or ‘am’ in your sentences too.  How do we decide?

Our sentences explore the doubling rule and whether or not we use the words ‘am’ or ‘is’ when writing about actions.  Listen to each sentence, or part of a sentence, as many times as you need.  Either rewind, or pause the video and ask someone else to say the sentence to you.  When you have finished each sentence, you can also illustrate your story with pictures that suit you.

The punctuation that is needed for each sentence will be discussed as the sentence is demonstrated.

Ideas for writing your own sentences are suggested at the end of the film.  Use this activity as a different way of practising your reading and writing.  You can also use typing or texting as your extra practise.
