2.2 Writing Words 2
You are here: Shapes and Sounds Part 2 > Lesson 13 - g and ng > 2.2 Writing Words 2

Work along with the video on words that include choices for consonants, and vowel sounds

Remember to scroll down to view all videos.

Use the Reading Words 1 video for some extra practice at reading one syllable words.    Please note that this is a longer video and you may prefer to stop after each syllable splitting pattern.

Here are the timings:

  1. Stop after ‘Gambon’
  2. Restart at 3:32 and stop after ‘gossip’
  3. Restart at 6:56 and stop after ‘gaping’
  4. Restart at 11:20 for words with the suffix –ing

Use writing, or typing to practise your words again.  You can also read the words to someone else and ask them to write them.

Choose this ‘Building Speed’ video to build quick responses to the choices covered.

This video includes all the speech sound to letter links that are in Building Speed 1 as well as the additional choices from the Section 2 activities.

Once you have the first written set of letters from watching the film, you can go over these letter-sound links again and again by asking someone else to say the sounds to you.  Maybe you would like to use a keyboard as a different way of practising.  Remember – an automatic response to the sounds frees up brain space for the words you want to write.

Please note that there are additional spelling choices for /g/ that are not being included in this programme.  Words like ‘ghost’ and ‘league’ can be included as Extra Words We Need if this is appropriate.
